Precision Medicine Genetics

Most medical treatments are designed for the average patient as a one-size-fits-all-approach, which may be successful for some patients but not for others.

Precision or personalised medicine is an innovative care model designed to optimize the efficiency and therapeutic benefits for you as my patient through the integration of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.

Precision medicine often involves pharmacogenetic testing. The goal of precision medicine is to target the right treatments to the right patients at the right time.

Precision medicine considers variability in your genes, environment, and lifestyle to decide disease treatment and prevention, more accurately predicting which treatment and prevention strategies will work best for you as my patient. This incorporates a predictive, preventive, personalised and participatory medicine approach, specific to you and tailored for you.

This innovative, precision health technology unlocks the ability for me to deliver you personalized treatment with better outcomes.

I have forged an innovative and collaborative partnership with Myogenes and offer the following genetic tests:

The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetics Test
The Health and Wellbeing Test
The Myogenes Mental Health Map™

The combination of these tests is the ideal way to personalise your treatment from a holistic mind body scientific platform.

The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetics Test

Pharmacogenomics is a field of study combining the science of pharmacology and genomics to reveal how your genetics may influence and metabolise certain medications or determine the potential impact medications can have on your body.

With this test I have new insight into how your genetic makeup affects your response to the various psychiatric medications I routinely prescribe.

Even though my clinical approach follows Evidence Based Treatment Algorithms, there is still a trial and error component to my decisions regarding the medication I prescribe for you, which can be challenging for me and frustrating for you due to the common variability in your individual treatment response.

Genomind's pharmacogenetic testing analyses 24 selected genes giving me insight to comprehensive genetic information about you, thereby helping me to make critical treatment choices for you as my patient, in relation to over 800 medications.

These 24 genes are split into the two following categories:

  • Pharmacodynamic genes, which may influence the body's biological response to a drug, such as the risk of side effects.
  • Pharmacokinetic genes, which may influence how quickly or slowly the body is able to metabolize certain medications, or how much of a drug can be absorbed.

The test is a non-invasive saliva swab that can be done in the comfort of your own home. Myogenes deliver and collect your sample and then sent it to the Genomind laboratory in Pennsylvania, United States.

Your results are ready in around 7-10 days from the time Genomind receives your sample.
The results will be sent back to me and once I have had a Zoom consultation with the Genomind Genetic experts I will then go through your report with you and suggest what the next best steps should be regarding your medication.

If you do not have a doctor, I will consult with the Genomind Genetic experts and provide you with a report. This will require you to consent to me doing this and completing and returning a Mental Health Medication Questionnaire about your diagnosis and medication and other treatment history.

The Health and Wellbeing Test

Each one of us possesses a specific genetic makeup which provides data about the most effective forms of nutrition that our particular body responds well to. And thanks to constant scientific advancement, it's now actually possible to create a personalised diet, nutrition and lifestyle plan based on your DNA.

Through detailed analysis based on your individual DNA, you will:

  • Discover the most important micro-and macro-nutrients your body needs.
  • Learn about your metabolism of alcohol, coffee, and lactose and how you respond to physical activity, including a greater understanding of your muscles and which sports will benefit you most.
  • Discover whether you have a propensity for being overweight, have high cholesterol, high blood sugar, weak bones and more.
  • Discover whether you are prone to oxidative stress - which determines your speed of ageing.

You can eliminate the guesswork from dieting and exercise through a simple saliva test which you can do at home, with a 110-page personalised report of your results available within 4 to 6 weeks.
